Community Scores

Community scores operate on a 1–5 scale, with 1 being the lowest and 5 being the highest. All results are based on statistics from MLS®, the City of Edmonton Open Data Catalogue, and other sources.

  • A high Homes score means you’ll find a lot of available real estate listings in that neighbourhood.
  • A high Family score means you’ll be close to schools and playgrounds, and everything is within walking and transit distance.
  • A high Safety score means bylaw violations and traffic accident rates are low, and you’ll be close to emergency services.
  • A high Recreation score means you’ll be close to sports and recreation areas.
  • A high Lifestyle score means you’ll be close to shopping and entertainment.

About Rio Terrace

Previously a part of the Town of Jasper Place, Rio Terrace is located in an area that was annexed to the City of Edmonton in 1964.

Rio Terrace is perched atop the north bank of the North Saskatchewan River Valley. This location provides spectacular views of the river valley and Fort Edmonton Park from vantage points along Rio Terrace Drive (73rd Avenue). Fort Edmonton Park is one of Edmonton’s most popular tourist attractions; it provides an educational and entertaining journey through Edmonton’s past, where visitors can explore in detail the life of our city’s early pioneers.

Ninety percent of the homes were built in the 1960s. All the residential units in the neighbourhood are single-unit dwellings. Other land uses in the neighbourhood include an elementary school, a community league, a church, and a park. These facilities are located in the west-central area of the neighbourhood.

Rio Terrace has no commercial business sites; however, residents have easy access to retail and service businesses within Edmonton via Whitemud Drive.

Rio Terrace was likely named in 1958. As the word rio is Spanish for “river,” Rio Terrace is likely a descriptive name for the neighbourhood, as it overlooks the North Saskatchewan River Valley.
